A new problem in public education during the time of COVID-19
Self-led programs aren’t a realistic option for many
My wife and I are both working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve been able to find ways to get our work done with our children in the house, so we can continue to bring in paychecks.
Like a lot of people, our main focus right now, beyond health and safety, is around minimizing expenses and ensuring we continue to generate income.
This involves the two of us working some odd hours, as it’s difficult to both stay simultaneously focused on work from 9-to-5 with children in the house. There are interruptions during our workday we didn’t have before, sometimes requiring us to work late to compensate for lost time.
We’re also focused on making sure our four school-age children continue to move forward with their education, while learning from home.
Things are going pretty well for our two private school students
Two of our children go to a private middle school where my wife works. Their classes are conducted online in real-time from around 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They log in and their teacher and classmates are in Google Hangouts. They’ve been doing this for weeks.
