There’s nothing wrong with brands posting to social media on U.S. Election Day
Some companies are being way too cautious about this
There were discussions recently on LinkedIn and X about how brands should refrain from posting anything on the day of the United States Presidential Election and maybe the day after; One article I read on the topic suggested some brands might want to take the whole week off.
While I don’t think it makes sense for most brands to post about the election, I don’t see Election Day as a reason not to post from brand accounts, especially if you have a global audience.
The opportunities are there and risk isn’t that high
Online traffic on Election Day is huge. Many people click on things while doom-scrolling, and plenty of people are looking for non-election content at election time. Some people look for ways to distract themselves.
For many people outside the U.S., the American presidential election day is a fairly regular business day. I had a work call with a prospect from another country and exchanged emails with others.
Not everyone is wrapped up in the election, and many Americans are going about their day. It’s not like Christmas morning or other global holidays…
